Details: History was made 150 years ago, as the Church of St. Paul the Apostle was dedicated and the Paulist Fathers were founded by Servant of God, Father Isaac Hecker. On January 4, 1876, the cornerstone for the present Church of St. Paul the Apostle was laid and a progressive community sprung forth, “giving the word of God a voice.” Through the years, a rich history of art, music and community were built, evolving into the vibrant, diverse parish we are today. Please join us on Friday, June 27, 2008 at 7pm for a spirit-filled evening when we will celebrate 150 years of the Church of St. Paul the Apostle with an Evening Under the Stars, an event featuring tours of our historical landmark church, majestic historical art, Openings – a young emerging artists’ exhibition, performances by both Ricardo Herrera of the San Francisco Opera and the St. Paul Singers and a sumptuous Tuscan buffet. Details: World Youth Day (WYD) is the largest youth event in the world and will be held in Sydney from Tuesday 15 to Sunday 20 July 2008. Organised by the Catholic Church, WYD brings together young people from around the globe to celebrate and learn about their faith on a more regular basis. WYD08 will be the largest event Australia has ever hosted. It will attract over 125,000 international visitors - more than the 2000 Olympics. WYD08 will mark the first visit of His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI to Australia. Through the WYD08 experience, young people from throughout the world will make a pilgrimage in faith, meet, and experience the love of God. World Youth Day is an invitation from the Pope to the youth of the world to celebrate their faith around a particular theme. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Details: 31st ANNUAL COLUMBUS DAY MASS Monday, October 13th - 9:30am Saint Patrick’s Cathedral Celebrant and Homilist: His Eminence Edward Cardinal Egan, Archbishop of New York The Italian Apostolate of the Archdiocese of New York, in collaboration with the Columbus Citizens Foundation, sponsors this annual religious and cultural event. The Mass is celebrated in English with selected prayers, readings and music in Italian. Complimentary tickets for the Mass are now available for individuals, Parishes, educational institutions and fraternal groups. Please contact Father Robert Aufieri at robert.aufieri@archny.org or 212-371-1000 x3055. Please order tickets no later than August 1st and include name/mailing address, and amount of tickets requested and phone number. General admission is at 9:15am for non-ticketed individuals. Priests who wish to concelebrate are asked to contact Fr. Aufieri. Permanent Deacons are invited to join in the Procession and be seated in the Sanctuary. The 64th annual Columbus Day Parade, sponsored by the Columbus Citizens Foundation, follows the Mass. The parade begins at 11:15am and will be broadcast on WNBC, Channel 4, from Noon to 3pm with Retired Admiral Edmund Sebastianias the Grand Marshal. Admiral Giambastiani was the Seventh Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the nation’s second ranking military officer from 2005 until his retirement in 2006. A limited number of tickets to view the Parade from the steps of Saint Patrick’s Cathedral are also available from the Italian Apostolate. The Columbus Citizens Foundation also hosts an exhibit in Grand Central Station’s Vanderbilt Hall from October 7-19th called “The Great White Fleet.” This exhibition will document and narrate the fleet’s mission at various ports of call and the heroic efforts of Italy’s citizens and American serviceman to aid in the country’s recovery during 1908. This exhibit is in collaboration with the Office of the Secretary of the Navy.

Details: Catholics in New York - 1808 through 1946 at Museum of City of New York. The Museum of the City of New York located at 1220 Fifth Avenue, New York City, will present an exhibition, Catholics in New York 1808-1946 , on the occasion of the commemoration of the Bicentennial of the Archdiocese of New York. The exhibition will tell the story of how the Catholic community grew over the course of a century and a half, gaining a political voice, creating a set of institutions that reshaped New York, and facing and overcoming prejudice. The exhibition begins May 16th and runs through December 31st. The hours of the Museum are Tuesday through Sunday, 10 am to 5 pm.
