"The Word is a gift. Other persons are a gift"
-Pope Francis, Lenten Message 2017
The Lenten season is a time of renewal and preparation for celebrating Holy Week, culminating on Easter Sunday. Beginning on Ash Wednesday and concluding on Holy Saturday, Lent is a time for deeper reflection, and surrender to God through greater prayer, fasting, and almsgiving.
By the solemn forty days of Lent the Church unites herself each year to the mystery of Jesus in the desert.

Have you ever wondered why we give up something for Lent? Why we say it's 40 days long, when counting days from Ash Wednesday to Holy Saturday adds up to 46? Why we eat fish on Fridays? Visit the USCCB's Leten Q&A to answer these questions and more!
The USCCB has prepared free, downloadable calendars in both English and Spanish for you to print and post in a prominent place, to remind you to take some time each day to contemplate your Lenten journey.
